Welcome to Year 3!

 Spring Term, 2019

I hope you have had a lovely Christmas break, and are ready for the start of 2019.

Following the Literacy and Numeracy framework set out by the Welsh Government, we are prioritising literacy and numeracy in every aspect of the curriculum. To ensure that we are responding to the requirements of the new curriculum for Wales, we will be teaching thematically in the afternoon.

Theme: Fantasy - Having found a nest with large green hatched eggs in our classroom (and mysterious footprints leading to the door), we are hoping to find out during this half term what was responsible for laying these eggs , and what sort of creature hatched from them! To solve this mystery, we must research all possibilities within the world of Fantasy. We will be researching dragons, dinosaurs, magical creatures and myths and legends. We will be completing many practical and creative tasks that are child-led, as the pupils can choose in which direction our theme work goes, and by the end of this half term, they must decide what creature was responsible for the strange nest and eggs. Theme work will be completed in English.

Maths: We will be completing activities and lessons based on place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, shape and measure, time and money.

Language: Instructions, Script and a Description. All language work will be based on our theme, Fantasy. Language work will be completed through the medium of Welsh.

Science: Light and sound.

PSHE: Health and well being.

Design and Technology / Art: Create a 3D scene for a character from the Fantasy world. Model the character out of clay to be placed in the 3D scene.

PE: Please see the group list.

Thank you for your continued support!
